Orthopedic Center thanks Taduran’s help for return of lands

The Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC) has thanked ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Rowena Niña Taduran for helping regain two parcels of land, which was illegally transferred to private personalities.

POC Medical Center Chief II Dr. Jose Pujalte, Jr., was emotional when he conveyed the hospital’s gratitude to Taduran for initiating an investigation on how the lots totaling 3,033 square meters ended up in the hands of a couple and a corporation.

“Kayo po ang aming heroine. Talagang hindi po namin makakalimutan. We were considering this a lost cause, na hindi na namin mababawi, pero sa isang iglap po ay nabawi namin peacefully, without any resistance from the other side. Kaya ito po talaga ay isang hulog ng langit at kayo ang aming anghel,” said Pujalte in a radio interview.

Taduran has filed a resolution seeking to investigate how the land titles of the POC lots were transferred to private personalities despite the 2009 decision of the Regional Trial Court and the ruling of the Supreme Court in 2016.

The lady solon promised to pursue the investigation to determine who colluded in the illegal transfer of titles.

“We will not stop until we get to the bottom of this anomaly,” Taduran said.

In a statement, Taduran said involved in the questionable transfer of title were the spouses Luriz, recent buyers Winston Yu-Limwan and wife Maybelle Ng-Limwan, a private company called Visco Motors Corporation, and a certain Elbert Quilala of the Quezon City Registry of Deeds.

Based on documents gathered by Taduran, since 1947 the POC owned the lots adjacent to the present location of the hospital in Maria Clara corner Banawe Streets, Quezon City.

The administration of the POC reported that since the 1990s, the Lurizes have been occupying the said lots and they dismanted the dormitories of the doctors and nurses, including the cottages and tennis court belonging and constructed by the hospital.

The QC RTC and SC ruled that the lots were owned by the government hospital.

A questionable Transfer of Certificate of Title was issued to Jose Luriz by the Registry of Deeds of Quezon City covering the two lots on September 20, 2020.

Two new TCTs were issued by the Registry of Deeds of Quezon City on June 25, 2021, to the buyers’ spouses Winston Yu-Limwan and Maybelle Ng-Limwan, and a private company, Visco Motors Corp.

Taduran urged her colleagues in the House to look into the anomalous sale of these government lots to protect the interest of the government and the public.
