Partido Reporma standard bearer Sen. Panfilo Lacson emerged as a strong third placer in the first Veritas Truth Survey (VTS) on presidentiables conducted by Radyo Veritas, garnering 19 percent in a poll of 2,400 respondents nationwide.
Conducted throughout the month of October, the respondents were asked online about their perception of who among the presidential aspirants in the 2022 elections adheres to Catholic values and beliefs. It has a margin of error of plus-minus 3 percent.
Lacson, who is Catholic, scored better than Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso (9%), and incumbent Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Christopher “Bong” Go, and Manny Pacquiao, who each got 1 percent.
Among the other presidential candidates, Vice President Leni Robredo got a score of 37 percent, followed by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos (27%).
Radyo Veritas said the remaining four percent of respondents were undecided.
The Veritas Truth Survey is an in-house research mechanism scientifically designed by the Catholic radio station to get the social pulse of various respondents nationwide on crucial social and church issues, which can be utilized for Radyo Veritas’ Evangelization thrust.
In a press statement, Fr. Anton CT. Pascual, president of Radio Veritas 846, said the results of the VTS serve as the basis of the “servant leadership persona” of each presidential aspirant who intends to run in May elections next year.
Sociologist Bro. Clifford Sorita, Veritas Truth Survey head, said the VTS is not a “voting preference survey” but an insight on how the Catholic faithful can connect their values and beliefs with the persona of the one they will vote for.
In its previous “servant leader” surveys, Veritas asked respondents to rank candidates based on 10 qualities of awareness, listening, conceptualization, empathy, foresight, persuasion, stewardship, commitment to growth, building community, and healing.
The qualities are based on a theoretical framework first proposed by American philosopher Robert Greenleaf.
