Lacson-Sotto tandem boosts prizes in Philippine Dance Competition

Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and his running mate Vicente “Tito” Sotto III showed their support for dancers and the youth by doubling the prizes in the Philippine Dance Competition 2021 held Sunday in San Fernando City, Pampanga.

Lacson surprised the almost 500 dancers in the socially distanced event without a live audience at the LausGroup Event Centre in San Fernando by declaring his campaign would double the grand prize of the event to P100,000.

The Partido Reporma chairman also said that he and Sotto would double the lesser prizes to P80,000 for second place, P60,000 for third place, P40,000 for fourth place, and P10,000 as consolation prizes to each of the non-winning teams out of the 25 groups competing in the event.

The dancers from across Luzon were the same ones who showed their support for the Lacson-Sotto tandem by performing a flash mob ahead of their “Online Kumustahan” activity in San Fernando City.

They were joined by bloggers and millennial youth groups who streamed the event live to their audience of thousands online, on their respective Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok platforms.

There was no live audience in the event, following social distancing protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the dancers immediately dispersed after their flash mob performance, which delighted and deeply touched Lacson and Sotto.

In a speech before the dance competition, Sotto – a veteran singer, actor, and TV host before ascending to the Senate in 1992 – lauded the youth who came out in droves to register for the coming 2022 elections and reminded them that they needed leaders like Lacson and himself who could steer the government right for their futures’ sake.

“Ramdam namin ang pulso ng kabataan, kaya imbes na mag-retire kami ni President Ping, inalam namin kung papaano resolbahin ang mga problema ng bayan. Kaya aasa kami sa tulong ninyong mga kabataan, habang kami naman ang tutulong sa ating bansa,” Sotto said.

[We feel the pulse of the youth, so instead of retiring from politics, President Ping and I learned all we can how to solve our country’s problems. So we are hoping for the youth’s help, while we help the country in turn.]
